Design in Details

When the owners of Residence 256 Kampala, Kigo envisioned their new guesthouse, the goal was never simply to create another place to stay. Situated in the tranquil lakeside community of Kigo, the property needed a distinctive identity that would appeal to modern travellers while establishing a memorable position within Kampala's growing hospitality market.

To realise that vision, 256 Hospitality Studio, under the creative direction of Solomon Oleny, was commissioned to create more than beautiful interiors. Our challenge was to transform a newly developed property into a hospitality brand—one that guests would immediately recognise, enjoy and confidently recommend.

Unlike many interior design projects that begin with furniture and finishes, our process began with the property's business objectives. Who are the guests? What experience should they have? What moments would they remember? Why would they choose Residence 256 over competing accommodation?
Those questions shaped every design decision.

Inspired by the calm character of Kigo and the timeless elegance of lakeside living, we created interiors that balance contemporary comfort with handcrafted African warmth. Natural materials, layered lighting, bespoke furniture and carefully selected finishes work together to create spaces that feel welcoming, authentic and enduring.

The project was delivered as a fully integrated hospitality transformation by 256 Hospitality Studio. Our scope included hospitality concept development, interior design, space planning, bespoke furniture design and manufacture, finish selection, lighting specification, decorative styling, furniture installation and complete project implementation. Much of the furniture was conceived, designed and handcrafted in our own workshop, giving us complete control over quality, functionality and design consistency while creating a distinctive identity unique to Residence 256.

What distinguishes our approach is our belief that hospitality design should first solve a business challenge before solving a design challenge. Drawing on Solomon Oleny's background in hospitality marketing, destination storytelling and interior branding, every project is developed to strengthen brand identity, enhance guest experiences and create hospitality products that are easier to market, more memorable to guests and more valuable to property owners.

Today, Residence 256 Kampala, Kigo enjoys consistently positive guest feedback, with visitors frequently highlighting its tasteful interiors, comfort, cleanliness and welcoming atmosphere as defining aspects of their stay. These experiences have helped reinforce the property's growing reputation as a peaceful, premium hospitality destination in Kigo.

For 256 Hospitality Studio, the success of this project is measured not simply by the quality of the interiors, but by the value they continue to create—helping establish a distinctive hospitality brand, enriching guest experiences and contributing to the long-term success of the property.
